The power of choosing yourself again
After separation, choosing yourself can feel selfish.
Especially if you have spent years putting everyone else first.
The children. The relationship. The household. The other person’s emotions. The peacekeeping. The explaining. The trying.
And somewhere in all of that, you may have forgotten yourself.
Not because you did not matter.
But because everything else became louder.
Separation changes so much. The future you imagined. The routine you knew. The role you played. And in the middle of that change, many women keep doing what they have always done.
They keep coping.
Keep managing.
Keep being “strong”.
But healing does not happen by abandoning yourself.
Healing begins when you start choosing yourself again.
Not in a selfish way.
In a necessary way.
Choosing yourself might look like booking the massage. Going to yoga. Taking a walk. Sitting quietly with a cup of tea. Asking for help. Saying no. Letting yourself rest without guilt.
Self-care after separation is not shallow.
It is repair.
It is giving your body and mind a moment to breathe.
It is reminding yourself that you are not only someone’s former partner, someone’s mother, or someone dealing with lawyers, paperwork and big decisions.
You are still you.
A woman with needs. Feelings. Dreams. A future.
If you missed my online workshop, How to Take Your Power Back After Separation, please know I may run it again soon.
Because taking your power back often starts with one small decision to stop putting yourself last.
So maybe today, the decision is simple.
Book the massage.
Go to yoga.
Call the friend.
Ask for help.
Stop replying to messages that can wait.
Let yourself breathe.
You do not need to earn rest.
You do not need to justify care.
Choosing yourself again is an act of recovery.
It is how you rebuild trust with yourself.
It is how you remind yourself: my needs matter too.
In early September, we are holding our holistic Re-Charge Divorce Recovery Retreat — a space to pause, breathe, reset and reconnect with yourself after separation.
A place where you do not have to hold everything together.
A place where choosing yourself is not selfish, but celebrated.
Because after years of surviving, managing and putting everyone else first, it may be time to ask:
What do I need now?
What would support me?
What would help me feel like myself again?
Start there.
Choose yourself.
Not because you are leaving everyone else behind.
But because you are finally coming back to you.
