The October reset: Three months left in the year —
What do you want to change?
October has a funny way of arriving.
The year has flown by, Christmas is suddenly not that far away, and you might find yourself thinking:
How is it already October?
And maybe also:
I thought I would feel further along by now.
Further along emotionally. Further along financially. Further along with the house, the paperwork, the separation, the healing, the plans you had for yourself.
But here is the thing.
You do not have to wait until January to start again.
What if the next three months looked different?
Not dramatically different.
Just lighter.
Calmer.
More intentional.
Maybe you are tired of feeling anxious every time your former partner messages you.
Maybe your finances still feel messy and you keep avoiding looking at them.
Maybe there is a cupboard full of paperwork you keep meaning to sort.
Maybe you have spent so much of this year looking after everyone else that you cannot remember the last time you did something just for you.
You do not need a complete life overhaul.
Pick one thing.
Emotionally
What are you ready to stop carrying?
The argument you keep replaying.
The need for an apology you may never get.
The habit of checking what your former partner is doing.
You do not have to be completely “over it” by Christmas.
But perhaps you can start giving less of your energy to something that is no longer helping you.
Financially
Maybe this is the month you finally sit down and look at the numbers.
What is coming in? What is going out? What needs attention before Christmas?
Not because you need the perfect budget.
Because knowing where you stand usually feels better than worrying about what you
do not know.
Practically
What is one thing you have been putting off?
Book the appointment.
Sort the paperwork.
Make the phone call.
Clean out the room.
Update the calendar.
Small unfinished jobs have a way of taking up a surprising amount of mental space.
Personally
This is the one I really want you to think about.
What do you want before the year ends?
Not what your children need.
Not what your former partner wants.
Not what work demands.
You.
Maybe you want to feel stronger.
Maybe you want more sleep.
Maybe you want to start walking again, see your friends more, plan a weekend away, read more, laugh more or simply feel like yourself again.
You are allowed to want something for you.
You still have time
Three months is enough time for things to change.
Not everything.
But something.
And sometimes one small change creates momentum for the next one.
So instead of waiting for January and telling yourself, Next year will be different, ask yourself:
What could I do now that would make the end of this year feel different?
You do not need a new year.
You can start again on an ordinary Tuesday in October.
