When spring makes everyone else look happy

There is something about spring that can make everyone else’s life look especially perfect.

The sun is out. Families are at the beach. People are planning holidays. Social media is suddenly full of smiling couples, happy children and beautiful weekends.

And if you are separated, it can quietly make you feel like everyone else is moving forward while you are still trying to work out what your new life looks like.

I know how easy it is to look at someone else’s family and think, That was supposed to be my life.

But what you are seeing is one moment. Not the whole story.

And your family being different now does not mean it is any less loving, meaningful or happy.

Spring can actually be a really lovely time to start creating a few new traditions of your own.

You might:

• Plan a picnic, beach walk or simple day trip with the children

• Create one new spring tradition that belongs to your family now

• Organise something you genuinely enjoy for the weekends the children are with their other parent

• Take a break from social media when you notice yourself comparing

• Reconnect with a friend you have not seen for a while

• Write down three things you would love to do or experience before summer

None of these things have to be big.

Sometimes rebuilding your life after separation starts with something as simple as finding a new favourite café, taking the kids somewhere you have never been before or realising that you actually enjoyed a Sunday afternoon on your own.

You do not have to have your whole new life figured out.

Just start creating little pieces of it.

One new memory. One new routine. One small thing that feels like you again.

Your family may look different now.

But different can still be beautiful.
